The Air Force example is bolder. Liking a post, as long as I am liking it as myself regular citizen person, and not while stating my agency affiliation, is not bold, imo. If I get on and say I oppose federal firings, ok. It's if I get on and say I represent one of them and I name the agency and then say I oppose the firings that I am in violation of Hatch, if I understand it correctly. I can oppose it all day long as Mary Beth.

She didn't say she was in the Air Force. I just happen to know that. I'm careful not to blow anyone's cover! So, I think everyone is cool, so far. But even what I've seen is way more than they would have dared before this.

Yes. All a dance of balancing the risks of saying vs staying quiet. I appreciate the discussion, though I do apologize for how far off your post topic I have veered.

Oh, not at all! It's an important conversation and I'm grateful to be having it.

Oh yes I save the specifics for dm. Seems recommended to keep our affiliations low profile, as you can imagine.

I understand completely.

I do think about how all of us dutifully obedient public servants observing the Hatch act and therefore not broadcasting that we even are federal employees much less what we do on a given day or what our work accomplishes and how this contributes to the lack of awareness of what our agencies do and why we should stop dismantling them immediately... food for thought.

Definitely food for thought.

On the Hatch Act, I've seen federal employees being much bolder lately, from "liking" political posts to an Air Force squadron commander openly criticizing military firings.

My understanding is BPA funds itself, but they went ahead and cut workforce anyway. This week a BPA transmission line to our whole county was compromised by wind storm and those of working for federal agencies involving fish in tanks spent a second shift keeping them alive sans power until past midnight. While contemplating our own jobs now on the chopping block. Super surreal right now.

My understanding too on BPA. It only makes sense in the context of bullying and control. Like pretty much everything else.

Which agency are you with? You can DM me if you prefer.

Under the regime that obliterates rights of nature and objectify her bounty, your work and voice is one of the most revolutionary John. Keep bringing on the truth!

Thank you so much, Swarna.

We have a lot of protections here in Washington State that I'm more grateful for now than ever. It doesn't make any of this less scary, though. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, John, for this summary of what's impacting water on so many levels. With so much going on, and trying to follow it all through reading Substacks by intelligent, informed experts, I rely on you to keep me informed. I didn't know about filling in wetlands. Or of course personal emails from people fearing for their jobs.

Thanks Kirie. The wetland thing almost slid by with everything else going on. I'm glad we have our own wetland protectors here in WA.

Thank you for this excellent summary of the shitshow. As a water expert, I know about all these issues but who in the world can track the bulldozer? Good thing water allocation is still controlled by the western states--and 'water is for fightin' over'.

Thanks Wendy. A shitshow indeed. This is just a sample.

I’m sure. It’s hard to watch and assimilate. My life’s work…

Hard to read but good to know. Water is the new oil. Thanks for keeping watch as there are fires burning everywhere.
