I am glad somebody is writing about this in this manner. When I was leading the DEI efforts at a big corp, I kept on insisting that environmental issues cannot be separated from discussions about justice and equity.

Well, it's getting better, slowly, but not in all the places it's needed.

A friend at the EPA explained to me that their environmental justice initiative started in Obama's second term. They though they'd have another administration to get it done. Alas it was not to be. So they made it a priority under this administration.

Washington state has an environmental justice council. The spotlight tends to be on urban issues, such as along the Duwamish River in Seattle, which has legacy pollution from WWII, a tribe the Feds won't recognize, and a high concentration of BIPOC, particularly recent immigrants.

In some work on drinking water in the center of the state, I found that drinking water quality there is a major environmental injustice, and testified to that effect to the EJC. The testimony became the text of this post: https://johnlovie.substack.com/p/can-i-buy-bottled-water-with-food

I'll be writing about it again later this year.

And thanks for your work in this area!
