I love these accounts, the details of the race/weather (!) and the casual encounters with strangers that always seem to have that kismet magic in them, of unexpected brief connection. 💜
This is relatable as I'm going to support my wife in an Olympic distance triathlon in Bend this weekend! There's something so inspiring about watching Ironman finishes. A few years ago I found myself out at the Madison Ironman finish until the midnight cutoff!
Thank you for thinking of me! In Santa Fe now, but we did drive the San Luis Valley. It was raining, otherwise we would have taken the mountain route all the way.

Thank you so much, Freya!

Good luck to your wife, Adam!
The whole time I read this I was thinking, “I wonder if he’s still there … can I tell him some roads to drive nearby? Some magic to go find?” 🤗

You are support like no other. This much I know is true 🫂
Thank you, Becky!
WONDERFUL read... all of it, but of course, words about the race are lingering in my gut and heart.

A great account of this business we call living. Thanks, John.
